While claimants must still meet the weekly requirements that they be “able and available for work,” the requirement that they actively search for work while receiving benefits has been waived. By law (Ohio Revised Code Section 4141.29), when an individual has been waived from the work search requirement, they are also exempt from completing their reemployment requirements. These are commonly known as the “8 week and 20 week” requirements. Once exempted, the exemption remains for the entire benefit claim. To finish an unemployment filing, please visit www.unemployment.ohio.gov and select “File/Appeal Benefits” located in the green box.
